Chapandoz is a brand concept that came into existence through a collaboration between me and a dear friend of mine Yama Saraj from Afghanistan. Sharing the same vision about the need to promote the abundant talent from both Afghanistan and the Southern part of Africa, with a specific focus on Zulu and Ndebele – merged with the Chapandoz warriors way of life, the vigor of the sport and the Chapan worn by Afghan peoples, a brand was born.
Unfortunately, due to study commitments of Yama Saraj, also understandable at the time, the dream we shared became my dream….a dream to continue a journey of wonder and discovery on both Afghanistan and the South, through fashion.
The below images show the first clothes I made for the Chapandoz brand. I made these clothes a week before traveling to Congo, where I was going to produce the first Biennale of Contemporary Art and Design. I made these clothes to present them for the project Design consciousness, as a response to the challenges facing Congo’s Design industry.
I’m currently working on this brand so please visit again for updates.
